Abstract
An erasable ink for use in ball point pens comprises crystalline graphite of particle size from 0.5-5 microns dispersed in a non-polar and non-drying hydrocarbon carrier which has dissolved therein a resin derived from unsaturated constituents of the carrier, e.g. the hydrocarbon and resin being absorbed by the paper leaving an erasable layer of graphite on the surface. Carriers specified are white mineral oils and hydrocarbon polymers or coumaroneindene resins are used as the synthetic resins. In examples: (1) 15 parts graphite of 2 microns particle size are dispersed in 65 parts of a mineral oil having an A.P.I. gravity of 20 at 60 DEG F., a 69 S.U.S. viscosity at 210 DEG F. and a flash point of 355 DEG F. which has dissolved therein a polymer obtained by the catalytic polymerisation of a mixture of dienes and olefines; (2) 7.5 parts graphite are suspended in a coal tar naphtha containing 25 parts coumarone indene resin.
