Glass 97(1) In a spectacle frame in which the side arms are made of a metallic core embedded in an outer non-metallic part of the covering of the side arms near the hinge is replaced by a metallic or non-metallic ring or rings free on the core and retained thereon by an end-piece riveted to the end of the core by means of the rivets which attach the side arm to the temple hinge. Preferably, the end piece is in the form of a cap fitting over the end of the core. The separate rings 3, 4, 11, can be open or closed or, a single ring can be constituted by a piece of wire wound round the core (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). The rings may be decorative and their relatively loose engagement with the core enables the side piece to retain the flexibility of the core. The flexibility depends on the distance a in Fig. 2 and this may be greater on the outside of the side arm than on the inside so that the side arm is more flexible in the inward direction than in the outward direction and viceversa. The distance a and thus the flexibility, can also be varied along the length of the side arm. The form shown in Fig. 5 in which rings 11 are joined by links. 14 is stated to be more flexible than that shown in Fig. 2.
