Abstract

780,651. Moulding polytetrafluoroethylene. EDISON SWAN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 14, 1955 [Jan. 25, 1954], No. 2198/54. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXX] Preformed blocks 5 of polytetrafluoroethylene, which may have sloping or chamfered ends, are placed in a trough shaped mould 1 which is closed by a removable cover 2, and moulded into an integral strip by fluid pressure applied by a rubber tube 7. The end members 8 of the mould are moved outwardly, as the tube compresses the material against springs 11. Stops 13 limit the outer position of the members 8. The strip is removed after moulding and heated. A metal coating may be applied, e.g. by spraying, before or after moulding. The strips may be curved or comprise elbows or T-joints, and they may be used in forming waveguides or as linings for shoots or skis.
