Abstract
780,373. Capacitors. ERIE RESISTOR CORPORATION. Oct. 26, 1955 [Dec. 16, 1954], No. 30600/55. Class 37. A ceramic-dielectric capacitor is prepared by completely coating a ceramic disc or tube with a metal layer and then tumbling the disc or tube in a barrel having an abrasive inner surface whereby the metal layer is ground away at the edges of the ceramic to separate the metal coating into two portions constituting the two electrodes of the capacitor. Fig. 4 shows a ceramic disc 1 completely encased by a metal coating 5; Fig. 2 shows the same disc after the tumbling operation, the edges of the disc having been bevelled by the action of the tumbling barrel so that it now constitutes a capacitor having electrodes 2, 3. Figs. 10 and 9 similarly show a ceramic tube coated with metal before and after the tumbling operation respectively.
