Abstract

779,204. Radio navigation. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 13. 1955 [Jan. 25, 1954], No. 1115/55. Class 40(7) Apparatus for determining the angular deviation of an aircraft from a particular course defined by a radio beacon includes means for determining whether the craft is travelling to or from the transmitter. As shown (Fig. 1) the energized rotor 11 of a selsyn 10 is set by a direction indicator 16 in alignment with the signals from aground transmitter T located at the required destination, the direction 45 of the field produced by rotor 11 being indicated at 44, and also transmitted via rotor 13 to a second selsyn 18 whose rotor 21 consists of two perpendicular windings 22, 23, the former being-aligned by a. course selector 38.' If the actual course indicated by the direction'of', winding 11 does not agree with the selected course indicated by the direction of winding 22, a signal appears in winding 23 which, after phase rectification, indicates at 36 the angular deviation from the selected course 46, whilst the signal in winding 22 will have a phase depending on the direction of travel relative to the transmitter T, and is indicated at 28 after phase rectification as " To " or " From." Specification 764,923 is referred to.
