777,633. Automatic steering control systems. HOBSON, Ltd., H. M., and GLAZE, S. G. Oct. 28, 1955 [Feb. 22, 1955], No. 5290/55. Class 38 (4). Electrical error signals from an aircraft automatic pilot P, which normally cause operation of an elevator (not shown) through a direct channel 10 and lines L, in triplicate for reliability, are also applied to a low-pass filter F, the output of which is compared with the signals in channel 10 and the difference applied to an amplifier A which operates a relay R when the difference exceeds a predetermined value indicating unsafe operating conditions e.g. due to a fault in the control system. This, changes over contacts R1A-R1C from the positions shown so that the control surface is operated in response to the output signals of the low-pass filter instead of the signals from channel 10. Contacts R2 also close to maintain relay R operated until the output of amplifier A falls to a low value.
