Abstract
777,159. Welding by pressure. FIAT SOC. AZIONI. Feb. 15, 1955, No. 4513/55. Class 83(4). In a spot-welding machine a pneumatic device to move the electrodes relatively to one another comprises a casing formed by two shells connected together with a resilient diaphragm clamped between their edges and a stem secured to the diaphragm and projecting outwardly through one shell, the stem and casing being connected to the electrodes. In an embodiment the electrodes 28, 29, Fig. 3, are held in arms 23, 24 pivoted at 27 and a fork 22 attached to the casing 1, 2 is hinged to the arm 24 while a fork 12 attached to a sleeve 100 clamped to a rubber diaphragm 7 is hinged to the arm 23. The sleeve 100, which is guided by a bolt 21 secured to the part 2, is clamped to the diaphragm by a nut 11 thereon which clamps the diaphragm between a flanged sleeve 5 and an annular plate 8 and is insulated from the bolt, flanged sleeve and plate. Compressed air is admitted to and exhausted from the casing parts 1, 2 by pipes 17, 18 and coolant is circulated through the arms 23, 24. In a modification an electrode 40, Fig. 4, is secured to a sliding arm 41 connected to a diaphragm 7 and is movable towards and away from an electrode 39 secured to an arm 38 fixed to and insulated from the casing.
