Abstract

In protecting seeds, e.g. grain, against pests such as birds and the wheat bulb fly, the seeds are dressed with a mixture of tar, e.g. gas tar, and creosote. The mixture may contain up to 75 per cent by volume of either ingredient, preferably equal volumes of them. One pint of the mixture may be added to each 16 stones of seed. In dressing wheat, the mixture is poured over it, the wheat is turned three times and is then ready for sowing.
