Abstract

<PICT:0776309/III/1> An annular gasket 10 comprises a core 14 of silicone rubber coated with a nonelastic sheath 13 more resistant to liquid chemicals than the silicone rubber, the external surface of the gasket being corrugated by continuous grooves 12 and ridges 11. Materials stated as suitable for the sheath are polyethylenesulphide, polytrifluorochloroethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, butadiene acrylonitrile rubber, polyvinylchloride, polyethylene, nylon, copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene and trifluorochloroethylene, polyvinylidenechloride, and glycolterephthalate. The sheath may be applied by a repeated dipping and baking process.
