776,230. Erasers. LADEUZE, M. J. B., and TONI, P. Sept. 12, 1955 [Sept. 15, 1954; Feb. 4, 1955], No. 26030/55. Class 146(3). A method of erasing ink and gelatine impressions on paper and the like includes the step of wetting the surface with a liquid including alcohol mixed with benzene and/or ethylamine, rubbing the wetted portion of the surface with a slightly abrasive pad and thereafter immediately wiping off the liquid. The abrasive pad 3 is preferably of fine metallic or plastic sponge and is housed in a tubular container 4 housing a tapered opening at an end through which the pad projects, a handle 5 being inserted in the other end. The pad may be dipped into the liquid comprising the mixture of alcohol and benzine and /or ethylamine before being applied to the ink it is desired to erase. In an alternative construction, Fig. 2 (not shown), the handle is made as a two-part hollow container for the liquid which is forced through a capillary hole to impregnate the pad. In a further alternative construction the liquid is contained in a reservoir surrounding the tube and provided with capillary tubes which direct the liquid towards the exterior of the pad, Fig. 3 (not shown). A cover may be provided to protect the exposed portion of the pad when the eraser is not in use. As the pad is used it may be forced through the tube 4 by pressure on the handle 5 or by a pusher screw-threaded through a stopper closing the top of the tube 4.
