Abstract
775,315. Waveguide windows. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. Nov. 15,1954, No. 33002/54. Class 40 (8). A window 5 of glass, quartz or polystyrene held between a supporting plate 6 and an annular clamping plate 10 is secured between blocks 3, 4, fixed to waveguides 1, 2, by means of bolts 12. The blocks 3, 4 are provided with quarter-wave chokes 14, 15. The guide 1 may be evacuated through a duct (not shown) and the guide 2 supplied with fluid, e.g. air, carbon dioxide, dichloro-difluoro methane or nitrogen, under pressure through a duct 18. Sealing rings 9, 13 are provided. The circumferential edge of the window may be given a silver or gold film to prevent heating of the ring 9. The plate 6 may overlap the window within the guide to provide inductive balancing of the capacitive reactance of the window. The window may be kept cool by convection cooling within the guide 2. Screws 11 securing the plates 6 and 10 are preferably on the highpressure side of the window.
