774,833. Record cards; tabs. RUEGGNAEGELI & CIE, AKT.-GES. April 7, 1955 [April 7, 1954; Dec. 16, 1954], No. 10356/55. Classes 16 and 146(1). A record card, in which a strip adjacent the top edge is used as a marking strip, has a protective strip of transparent flexible material pushed by its ends through parallel spaced apart slots approximately perpendicular to the top edge, the strip lying only on one top marginal part of the card and only projecting over the top edge by an amount sufficient to protect the top edge from damage. As shown in Fig. 3, the narrow ends 3a of a transparent strip 3 are passed through slots 2 in a card 8. The strip 3 may be arched longitudinally or transversely instead of flat. In this construction, the strip 3 is also used to protect a signal strip 9, the ends of which pass through the slots 2 to lie between the layers, the card 8 being double, and which has a pointer 9a which acts as a rider and a pointer 9b to co-operate with a scale 10. In a modification (not shown) the double card, with slots along the top edge as in Fig. 5, has a spring spacing member as described in Specification 711,767 protected by the strip 3. In a further modification (not shown) the ends 3a of the strip are extended beyond the side of the card and notched to provide a suspension means for engaging rails in a cabinet. As shown in Fig. 5, a transparent strip 24 has narrow ends 24a passing through slots 23 in a double card 21 folded at the top edge in which slots 28 are provided for riders 27. The top and bottom edges 24b of the strip are bent over between the slots 23 to form a pocket for a signal strip 25, the left hand end of which passes through the left hand slot 23 which is approximately centrally placed to allow movement of the signal strip without projecting at the side of the card. The other end of the strip 25 has a signal projection 25a and a central hole 26 movable by a pencil or like point along the space between the edges 24b. The signals 9 and 25 may be of coloured cellulose foil. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 711,767.
