772,427. Electric indicating systems. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1954 [March 3, 1954; April 20, 1953], Nos. 5868/53 and 10763/53. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] In Fig. 2 a potentiometer P1 is set manually to correspond with the desired angle of elevation of the flight path of an aircraft and this angle is maintained by steering the aircraft manually in accordance with the indications of a pointer type indicator instrument 102. A D.C. signal obtained from potentiometer P1 is applied to a modulator M1 the A.C. output of which is combined with an A.C. signal obtained from the pitch pick-off of a gyro-vertical G1 and an A.C. signal from a pick-off 22 associated with a bellows 20. Bellows 20 is altitude responsive and has one end adjusted by a motor 19 computing altitude by integrating a voltage dependent on the setting of potentiometer P1 and the setting of a potentiometer P3 adjusted in accordance with airspeed. The resultant signal, which is thus dependent on the pilot's setting of potentiometer P1, the pitch angle of the aircraft and the difference between the actual height of the aircraft and its computed height is applied to an A.C. amplifier A1 which controls indicator 102 through a demodulator 104.
