Abstract
772,135. Car retarders. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. Dec. 8, 1955 [Dec. 8, 1954], No. 35240/55. Class 103 (1). A car retarder speed control apparatus for controlling a car retarder which is operable to exert different braking forces according to the manner in which electric current is supplied to a retarder control circuit, as described in Specifications 676,132, 724,844 and 724,845, comprises car weight determining means 44 for determining the weight of a car prior to its entering a retarder and for operating contacts 47, 48 in accordance with the weight of a car, weight storage relay groups RL1, RH1, RL3, RH3, normally de-energized, pick up circuit means including said contacts 47, 48 with connections to said storage relay groups to energize said relay group in an energized arrangement corresponding to the operation of said contacts 47, 48, a stick circuit means LS including an occupancy relay contact R1 closed in response to a car entering the retarder with connections to said relay group to retain said rela y group energized in accordance with the energization previously effected by said weight determining means and circuit means including contacts of said relay group with connections to said retarder control circuit whereby current is supplied to said retarder control circuit in accordance with the energization of said storage relays.
