Abstract
A crucible or pot for glass melting has associated therewith means for generating ultrasonic vibrators which can be applied to the contents of the crucible pot throughout the whole or part of the period of melting and pouring, drawing or extrusion of the glass the vibration transmitter being so arranged as to be wholly within the contents of the pot. The transmitter is preferably one capable of producing a range of frequencies and may be a magnetostrictive transducer. Heating elements may be interspersed in relation to the transmitter to give additional control of glass turbulence or flow.
