Abstract

770,982. Telegraph regenerative repeaters. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELEPHONES. July 15, 1955 [July 26, 1954], No. 20528/55. Class 40 (3). Start-stop telegraph signal combinations in a five-unit code received by relay TR over line RON are retransmitted over line TR by relay TT under the control of a resonant armature L of the type described in Specification 733,216, [Group XXXVI]. The armature has a half period equal to a signal element (20 milliseconds) and rests alternately on contacts 01 and 02 for approximately this period.. Each contact is connected to an auxiliary relay D1, D2 through a contact D11, D21 of the same relay, and the action of the armature is to sample and transfer the condition of the receiving relay contacts to the appropriate coil 1 or 2 of the transmitting relay during the brief moment (approximately 1 millisecond) separating the closing of contact O1 or 02 by the armature and the operation of the corresponding auxiliary relay. Operation of the apparatus is initiated by the brief closure of key K. This energizes relay S over winding 1 which in turn energizes the starting coil OSC of the resonant armature via contact S1. The armature which normally rests in a mean position is thus brought against contact O1 where it rests, holding relay S operated over coil 2, in a circuit including the receiving relay contacts. Upon receipt of a start signal, relay S releases with a 10 milliseconds delay determined by resistor r2. Starting coil OSC is then de-energized and the armature L starts vibrating. Since the half period corresponds to 20 milliseconds, the subsequent sampling actions take place approxi- .mately at the theoretical centres of the signal elements. A counter comprising five relays R1-R5 operates at each sampling action, the relays operating in turn and holding over contacts R11, R22, R32, R42 and R55. At the sixth sampling action corresponding the fifth signal element, relay S is re-operated over a circuit prepared via contact R52 and R54 and at contact S1 releases relays R1-R4. Relay R5 remains held in a circuit including contact 02 and releases at the seventh sampling action when the armature moves to contact O1. The closure of contact R51 then re-energizes the starting coil OSC via the operated contact S1 and the apparatus resets with the starting coil and relay S energized and the remaining relays de-energized ready for a subsequent start signal. A counter C operated from a contact of relay R5 is included to register the number of signal combinations retransmitted.
