Abstract

770,696. Dental protheses. HERAEUS GES., W. C. Nov. 10, 1954 [Nov. 25, 1953; May 26, 1954], No. 32519/54. Class 81(2) A subperiosteal implant for the attachment of dental protheses, comprises a frame of prefabricated tissue-compatible ductile metal deformable in the cold state, having a thickness of 0.3 mm. to 1.0 mm. and formed with means for anchoring in the jaw and securing thereon supporting elements for dental protheses. The implant 1 is made from a perforated sheet of tantalum which is preferably 0.5 mm. thick and is shaped to fit the jawbone. The perforations 3 are circular, oval or polygonal and are preferably rounded at the edges. They are uniform in size and have a diameter between 1.5 and 2.5 mm. They are arranged so that the total perforated area amounts to between one quarter and three quarters of the total area of the sheet. Several screws 12 are passed through perforations to secure the implant to the jaw bone. Supporting pillars 2 for dental protheses are secured to the sheet. Each pillar 2 comprises a screw which is passed through a perforation and a sleeve to which is internally and externally threaded and is secured to the screw. Each sleeve 6 is provided with a collar 7 which is surrounded by the gums when the device is in place. The screws 12 and the supporting pillars 2 are made from tantalum, a noble metal or corrosionresistant steel.
