769,918. Bearings. WATSON & SONS, Ltd., W., and OSBORN, F. T. Dec. 31, 1954 [Jan. 12, 1954], No. 917/54. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XX] A rectilinear-motion bearing between a slide 41 and a pillar 21 of a microscope comprises strips 27 of resilient plastic material, preferably polytetrafluoroethylene, disposed in grooves in the pillar 21. The inserts are retained by swaging over the edges of the grooves. In a modification the bearing portion of the slide is coated with polytetrafluoroethylene. The invention is applied to the slide of a microscope in which the adjusting shaft 45 is journalled in plastic bushes 48. Alternative plastic materials are polyethylene and polychlorotrifluoroethylene.
