Abstract
768,682. Television distribution systems. COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1955 [Nov. 26, 1953], No. 32884/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (4). In a distribution system for colour television at least two distribution circuits are used to carry information concerning the picture. Thus in one embodiment two circuits are used, one carrying a luminance signal and the other a chrominance signal. The luminance signal is caused to modulate a carrier signal which is fed to one of the circuits and the chrominance information is transmitted in the form of hue and colour saturation signals which modulate different carrier frequencies which are then combined for transmission over the second circuit. In a second embodiment the luminance signal is sent over one two-wire circuit, the colour saturation signal over a second twowire circuit and the hue signal is sent over the phantom of these two circuits. The three signals may be derived direct from a camera, or from a radio receiver for receiving broadcast colour signals. The audio signals may be sent over one of the circuits, e.g. the luminance circuit. In the case where a plurality of olour programmes is to be transmitted, additional carrier waves for carrying the additional programmes may be superposed on the circuits carrying the first programme.
