768,248. Portage vessels, handles. BADUEL, G. S. and BADUEL, F. S. April 12, 1955 [March 23, 1954], No. 8503/54. Class 66. [Also in Group XXV] A spigot and socket connection for permanently securing a handle 13 to a vessel 12, Fig. 1, comprises a leaf or wire spring arrangement let into one or more radial recesses in the spigot or socket in such a manner that whereas the spigot is readily inserted into the socket any attempt to withdraw the spigot causes said spring arrangement to bite into the surface that would otherwise slide past it. In Fig. 4 the leaf spring 16 is in a radial recess in a spigot b and is flexed by a shoulder 18 to press against the internal surface of the socket a. Any attempt to move the spigot b to the right will be prevented by the spring 16 biting into the socket a. Many alternative forms and arrangements of the spring 16 are described and illustrated. The spigot and socket may each have aligned recesses to receive a key to prevent relative rotation.
