Abstract
766,295. Watches. BAIER, P. Jan. 7, 1955 [Jan. 8, 1954; Feb. 12, 1954], No. 502/55. Class 139. The oscillatory weight of a watch self winding mechanism is carried by at least one flexible element attached to the watch movement. The weight 1, Fig. 1, is carried by a leaf spring 2 connected at 3 to the movement 4. Push and pull pawls 8, 7 are carried by an extension 6 of the weight 1 and are urged by a spring 9 into engagement with a ratchet 5 in the mainspring winding train. The pawl 8 drives the ratchet 5 as the weight 1 swings clockwise and the pawl 7 as the weight swings counter-clockwise. A detent 11 prevents reverse rotation of the ratchet 5 by urging it to a neutral central position. In another Example, Fig. 2, the weight 19 is carried by two leaf springs 20 each connected at one end to the plate 23 and at the other to a pivot pin 28 extending between the weight 19 and a cover plate 26 secured thereto. A pawl 33 having two spaced teeth 34 drives the ratchet 24 in the mainspring winding train when the weight 19 moves in one direction and a similar pawl 37 drives the ratchet 24 as the weight swings in the opposite direction. The weight 19 is provided with a cut-out 39 in which is located a U-shaped leaf spring 40 the limbs 41, 42 of which co-operate with one' or more pins or abutments fixed to the movement and weight to effect damping of the movement of the weight. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the weight 19' has two extensions 51, 52 to which the supporting springs 49 are fixed. The two pawls 33, 37 act as in the Fig. 3 embodiment and two additional pawls 54, 55 drive the ratchet 24 when the weight 19' oscillates in a direction at right angles to the edge 22' of the weight. The weight 19' carries damping springs 56 co-operate with the wall 57 of the casing 50.
