Abstract

765,261. Cracking hydrocarbon oils: catalytic apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. Feb. 21, 1955 [Feb. 23, 1954], No. 5091/55. Classes 1(1) and 32 Hydrocarbon oils are catalytically cracked .with the use of a fluidized catalyst which is circulated through a reaction, zone, an adjacent stripping zone situated in - the same vessel, and a regenerator, the gases and vapours issuing from the stripping zone be- ;ing added to those which issue from the reaction zone, the fluidized, catalyst beds in the reaction zone and in the stripping ;zone being kept separate one from another by a wall which extends to above the maximum level of the catalyst bed in the reaction zone, and the catalyst being passed from the reaction zone into the stripping zone through a system including one or more risers through which it is transported in a dispersed phase by means of steam or another gaseous stripping agent and the stripped catalyst flows from the stripping zone to the regenerated through a line provided with a regulating valve. In a preferred embodiment Fig. 1, a flashed distillate boiling above 300‹C. from Middle East crude was cracked in reaction vessel 3 using a fluidized synthetic silica-alumina cracking catalyst. The fresh feed preheated to 380‹C. entered through pipe 5 together with regenerated catalyst from, the regenerator (not shown) passing a distributing grid 6. The cracked products together with the vapours issuing from the stripping zone 4 pass through a cyclone 7 and out through line, 8. A wall 2 extends above the maximum level of the catalyst in zones 3 and 4 and.catalyst is continuously withdrawn through a stand pipe 10 and up a riser 11. After stripping the catalyst 'is withdrawn through a -stand-pipe 14 fitted with a regulating valve 15 to a regenerator. In a modification (not shown) the stripping zone completely surrounds the reaction zone.
