764,867. Electroluminescence. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., MILES, E. E., and PEACH, D. C. July 12, 1955 [July 12, 1954], No. 20305/54. Class 39(1). An electroluminescent plaque has two contacts, one a metal strip e.g. of stainless steel, secured to the conducting coating 3 of the glass support 1 by a conducting cement of plastic impregnated with silver dust, and the other a metal strip 5 also stainless steel attached to a larger glass strip 4 by a similar conducting cement 6, the strip 4 being secured to the conducting surface 3 by a non-conducting cement. The electroluminescent layer 7 of ZnS/Cu overlies the layer 3 and is covered by further layers of silver paint 8 and mica-filled shellac or rubber 9 respectively, the latter sealing the device against atmospheric attack. The contacts are uncovered or scraped clean. Specification 717,169 is referred to.
