Abstract

764,740. Contour gauges. DECKEL, H., and DECKEL, F. W. March 15, 1955 [March 19, 1954], No. 7482/55. Class 106 (2). A feeler-pin measuring device comprises an adjustable feelerpin 70, a transmission linkage and an indicator 84, these parts being mounted in a holder 10 fitting into and rotatably driven by a spindle 12, the transmission linkage including a longitudinally - extended oscillatable plate 34, the axis of oscillation of which is parallel to the adjusting direction of the feeler 70 or its carrier 54, both the transmission linkages, which leads to the indicator 84, and the feeler 70 engaging the plate 34. In Fig. 2 the device is being used to verify the centring of bore 124 with respect to the axis of the spindle 12. The feeler 70 is set at the required angle to an arm 66 with which it forms a bell-crank lever, being pivoted at 60 on the sliding carrier 54 which is secured by a clamping screw at the required position on the part 28, depending on the diameter of the bore 124. The part 28 is fixed to a shaft 18 which rotates with the spindle 12 so that the feeler 70 moves in a circular path, its point in contact with the sides of the bore 124. The arm 66 engages at 72 a cylindrically-shaped side 36 of the plate 34 which is pivoted at 32 to the part 28. The other side 38 of the plate 34 engages a pin 74 on which rests the flange 94 of a bush 96 axially movable relatively to the shaft 18 on bearings 98. A bell-crank lever 88 links the bush 96 to the indicator 84. Any relative movement of the feeler 70 in the bore 124 moves the arm 66 to which it is secured, tilting the plate 34, moving the pin 74 which displaces the bush 96. The lever 88 moves with the bush to give an indication on the indicator 84. A spring 102, Fig. 4, urges the side 38 upwardly, thus pressing the feeler 70 against the wall of the bore. When external diameters are similarly tested the spring is removed by a knob 106 to an inoperative position. A plane surface may be tested by screwing a bush carrying another feeler member into the hole 116, Fig. 2, the feeler engaging the side 36 of the plate 34, and the feeler 70 being moved to an inoperative position. The part 78 carrying the indicator 84 is mounted on the holder 10 by means of a bearing 80 and can be held steady while the rest of the device rotates by means of a handle 82, the bell-crank 88 continuing to contact the flange 94 of the bush 96.
