Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo dyestuffs of formula:-<FORM:0764308/IV(b)/1> where R1 is a phenyl radical having in 2-position a sulphonic acid fluoride group, in 4-position a nitro group and in 6-position a hydrogen or halogen atom or a trifluoromethyl or lower alkyl or alkoxy group, R2 is a phenylene radical which may be further substituted, w is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl, lower hydroxy- or alkoxy- or cyano- or difluoro- or polyfluoro- or alkoyl- or alkylsulphonyl- or carbamyl- or carboalkoxy- or alkoyloxyalkyl, cyano, lower alkoyl, lower alkylsulphonyl or lower carboalkoxy group and the group <FORM:0764308/IV(b)/2> is in para position to -N=N-. "Lower" denotes a group containing 1-4 carbon atoms. The monoazo dyestuffs are prepared by coupling the diazo compound of a 1 - amino - 4 - nitrobenzene - 2 - sulphonic acid fluoride which may be further appropriately substituted in the 6-position with a suitable tertiary amine of the benzene series. The dyestuffs dye cellulose acetate, polyamide and polyester fibres in ruby, violet, blue and reddish-brown shades. Dyestuff compositions may be obtained by grinding the dyestuff, if desired in the presence of inorganic and/or organic fillers, with dispersing agents or by mixing the moist dyestuff pastes with dispersing agents and subsequently drying the mixture. In examples: 1 - amino - 4 - nitrobenzene - 2 - sulphonic acid fluoride is diazotized and coupled with (1) N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl - aniline, (2) N - hydroxyethyl - N - ethyl - aniline, (3) 1 - (N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl) - amino - 3 - methylbenzene and (4) 1 - (N - hydroxyethyl - N - ethyl) - amino - 3 - methylbenzene, in (5) 1 - amino - 6 - chloro - 4 - nitrobenzene - 2 - sulphonic acid fluoride is diazotized and coupled with 1 - (N:N - dihydroxyethyl) - amino - 2 - methoxy - 5 - methylbenzene and (6) - (105), given as a Table, describe many dyestuffs of formula:- <FORM:0764308/IV(b)/3> wherein the following values are specified:- X is a hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or fluorine atom or a methoxy, methyl or trifluoromethyl group, Y1 is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl, methoxy, acetylamino or trifluoroacetylamino group, Y2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl, methoxy or ethoxy group, Z1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl, propyl, butyl, hydroxymethyl, a :b - dihydroxyethyl, hydroxybutyl, a - hydroxyethyl, methoxy - methyl, a - methoxy - b - hydroxyethyl, a - hydroxy - b methoxyethyl, cyano, cyanomethyl, carbamylmethyl trifluoromethyl, acetyl, propionyl, acetonyl, methylsulphonyl, methyl - or ethylsulphonylmethyl, acetyloxymethyl, propionyloxymethyl, carbomethoxymethyl, carbomethoxy or carboethoxy group and Z2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl, hydroxymethyl, a - hydroxymethyl, acetyloxymethyl, cyanomethyl or difluoromethyl group.
