Abstract
Vat dyestuffs are obtained by heating a mixture of one mol of a bis-chloroquinazoline compound of formula <FORM:0763328/IV(b)/1> wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl group such as a methyl, ethyl or isopropyl group, or a halogen atom, with about two mols of a vattable amino compound of the anthraquinone series in the presence of an inert solvent to temperatures from about 100 DEG C. up to 230 DEG C. until no more hydrogen chloride escapes. In examples; (1) the compound wherein R = hydrogen is reacted with 1-aminoanthraquinone or 1-amino-5-benzoylamino-anthraquinone or 1 : 4-diamino-2-acetyl-anthraquinone to give dyestuffs which dye cotton in yellow, yellow-orange and olive shades respectively, and the compound wherein R = chlorine in para-position is reacted with 1-aminoanthraquinone to give a dyestuff which dyes cotton in greenish-yellow shades; (2) the compound wherein R = hydrogen is reacted with 4-amino-31 : 51-dichloro-anthraquinone-2 : 1(N)-11 : 21(N)-benzacridone to give a dyestuff which dyes cotton in green shades; (3) the compounds wherein R = a methyl group in meta- or para-position are reacted with 1-aminoanthraquinone to give dyestuffs which dye cotton in yellow shades.
