Abstract

Material for protecting sown seeds and seedlings consists of artificially sterilized seeds, e.g. of wheat or maize, which are coloured, preferably green, and coated or impregnated with a bird-repellant substance, which may be a tri-or di-aryl guanidine, e.g. diphenyl guanidine. Seeds sterilized by being kept at a temperature between 60 DEG and 70 DEG C. for at least one hour may be used. The sterilized seeds may be impregnated with a solution of the bird-repellant-substance in a volatile solvent which is subsequently evaporated. The material is spread on the ground.
