Class 102(1) A guiding and scraping device for attachment to the pump rod of an oil well comprises a spring clip 4 shaped to be opened at 10 for laterally engaging the pump rod and provided with wall portions 7, 8 which are close to the wall of the pump tubing and afford a scraping action. As shown, two or more clips 3, 4 may be arranged with the openings 10 staggered. In a modification a spring clip 14 also shaped for laterally engaging the pump rod has a raised portion 16 having apertures 17 in which a wire spiral scraper 15 is secured. These devices may be combined as shown in Fig. 1.
