Abstract

761,298. Semi-conductor devices. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Aug. 24, 1953; May 31, 1954], No. 24297/54. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (c)] A rectifier device 7, Fig. 1, is operated in its reverse direction and illuminated with electromagnetic radiation such as from a light source 8. The rectifier then assumes a characteristic, Fig. 2 (not shown), with a low D.C. resistance and high A.C. resistance. A radioactive material 25, such as Mn 54, may be attached to the rectifier, Fig. 5, and a further zone may be added, Fig. 6 (not shown) so that the rectifier may always operate with one junction in the reverse direction.
