The movements, as distinct from the position of an intermittently movable member, are indicated and recorded by driving a selfzeroizing recorder from the member through a selsyn system (or other correspondence control) and a clutch, the clutch being released to permit zeroizing of the recorder between movements of the member. As shown, a distributer 10 for charging a blast furnace is intermittently rotated through an angle of 60, 120 or 180 degrees in either sense by an electric motor, Fig. 1 (not shown), and through a selsyn system 30, 29, a shaft 48 is positioned in correspondence with the angular position of the distributer. A recording pen 24 is driven by the shaft 28 through a clutch 27 which is engaged by energization of a coil 34 only during movement of the distributer, so that the pen 24 records each angular movement of the distributer, on the vertically moving chart 23, as a horizontal trace such as 58a, 58b ... 58f extending on either side of a zero position 58, the pointer being returned to zero by its centring spring 25 as the clutch 27 is de-energized after each distributer movement. Further pens 50, 51, 52 may be actuated selectively, by respective coils 38, 39, 40 to record, as at 55, 56, 57, whether the distributer charge is of coke, or ore, or whether an extra skip has been hoisted to the distributer.
