760,150. Cycle steering mechanism. MOLLER, H. March 31, 1954, No. 9432/54. Class 136(1). A stabilizer for a bicycle or motor cycle consists of springs 5, 6 wound round a loose sleeve 4 surrounding the steering column 3 and so arranged that one end of each spring bears against a support 7 fixed to a frame tube 2 and the other end of each spring is adapted to engage a ring 8 or 9 connected with the steering column. The rings 8, 9 enclose the sleeve 4 and are provided with laterally projecting thumb-pieces 10 which engage in notches 12 formed along the lower edge of a bell shaped holder 11. A tooth projects inwardly from the holder to engage a slot in the column 3. In an alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 4, only a single spring 15 is placed around the steering column 3, both ends of the spring normally bearing against faces 24 carried by screws on the support 7. The spring is enclosed by a cage comprising two rings 17 joined by stop pins 16. The cage moves with the steering column. One of the pins 16 is so placed that when the steering column is turned one of the ends 15<SP>1</SP> of the spring will engage the stop pin.
