Class 80(3) An adjustable cam comprises a flexible laminated steel strip 13 clamped by a number of individually adjustable pairs of jaws 16, 17 which receive the strip edgewise at points spaced along its length and are slidably mounted side by side between side walls 11 of a base 10. One end of the strip passes through a slot in the side wall 11 and is secured in an adjustable clamp 14. Each pair of jaws comprises a lower slidable bar 17a, Fig. 2, having an upstanding end portion carrying a hard cylindrical contact pieces 18, and an upper bar 16a which is slidable on the bar 17a and carries a contact piece 19. The contact pieces 18, 19 may be dispensed with if the bars are of a suitably hard material and are tapered and rounded. Each bar is slotted to receive the head of a threaded rod 20 engaging an end wall 21 so that rotation of the rod 20 adjusts the position of the corresponding jaw. Adjacent pairs of bars are arranged with their rods 20 alternately uppermost and lowermost. A wedge device 23, Figs. 1, 1A, holds the adjacent pairs of bars in contact and comprises an adjusting bolt 33 carrying a sleeve abutting a wedge member 32.
