[Also in Groups XVIII and XXXVII] In weighing apparatus for controlling the tobacco feed in cigarette-making machines in which the pointer of a weigher is hinged and operated by a chopper bar to actuate a selected one out of one or more pairs of ratchet counters which correct the tobacco feed after a predetermined number of actuations, actuation of any one counter resets all remaining counters. Two pairs of ratchet wheels are mounted side by side on a horizontal axis, Fig. 3 (not shown), behind the pointer of a weighing machine, Fig. 1 (not shown). One pair responds to large and small errors respectively in one sense, and the other pair in the other sense. The pointer is depressed periodically by a chopper bar so that a projection S, Fig. 4, engages the selected ratchet lever, e.g. 8, to advance its ratchet, e.g. 4, by means of its pawl, e.g. 15. Sufficient operation of a particular ratchet wheel enables a pin 40 to close contacts 44 which control the tobacco feed in unspecified manner, and via pin 65 to trip the retaining pawl 35 whereupon spring 60 resets the ratchet wheel, the return of the pin 65 being delayed for a sufficient period in an undisclosed manner. Simultaneously with the operation of any one ratchet wheel, its ratchet lever, e.g. 8, operates a common release bar 38 to trip the retaining pawls 35 to reset all the remaining ratchet wheels. The common release bar 38 is also tripped if the pointer is in the central (correct weight) position.
