Abstract
758,931. Converting. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1954 [Sept. 24, 1953], No. 26274/53. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XL (c)] The invention relates to circuits for generating a D.C. voltage, of the type comprising an inductor 3 connected effectively in series with a valve 2 arranged to be rendered intermittently conductive to cause current to flow from a supply into the inductor, a capacitor 4 being connected across the combination and a unilaterally conductive device 5 being connected in shunt with the valve whereby when the valve is non-conductive and after a resonant reversal of the inductor current has taken place the capacitor is charged through the unilateral conductive device by the inductor. According to the invention an impedance 11 is connected in series with the source of supply to the valve whereby the capacitor may charge to a higher voltage than that of the supply. The circuit shown generates a saw-tooth current in the inductor 3 and an E.H.T. voltage is obtained from a rectifier 7. The potential across capacitor 4 has a parabolic variation and may be chosen such that the current waveform in the inductor 3 which is the deflector coil of a cathode-ray tube compensates for the distortion due to the flatness of the tube face. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the auto-transformer is omitted and the device 5 is connected directly to the anode. The impedance 6 takes the form of a diode or an inductor. It is stated that 600 V. may be developed across capacitor 4 (for use in an external circuit) from a supply of 200 V.
