Abstract

758,916. Gear-finishing. HINDMARCH, T. Jan. 12, 1954 [March 13, 1953], No. 6947/53. Class 83 (3). In a method of gear-shaving in which either the gear or tool is rotated while the other is braked, the braking load is so adjusted as to produce a tooth deformation equal to that which the finished gear will have in service. The cutter A is mounted on a slide D traversed by power, or by a handle F. The work G is carried on an angularly-adjustable slide L and is braked by a dynamometer K. The slide L is carried on a slide N traversed vertically between fixed stops. The dynamometer may be replaced by an electrical, hydraulic or mechanical regenerative system. A pitch-line speed of 200-500 ft./min. is employed.
