Abstract

756,630. Fishing reels. MOMBUR, G. July 22, 1954 [July 31, 1953 ; May 26, 1954], No. 21456/54. Class 48. A stationary spool rotating flyer drum fishing reel having a generally annularlyshaped pick up member pivoted on the flyer drum about a transverse axle has a device which on locking maintains the pick-up member in the closed position corresponding to the line recovery and which on release allows the pick up member to be freely opened by the pull of the line at the cast and means to automatically return the pick up member to the closed position and locked through rotation of the flyer drum. The flyer 10 pivotally mounted on an axle 12 attached to the flyer drum 1 transverse to the axis of the spool 7 is connected through an arm 13 and a link 15 to a connecting rod 17. The connecting rod 17 is provided with a slot 21 which is engaged by a pin 22 mounted on an arm attached to. a pinion 25 rotatable about an axle 23 secured to a plate 24 integral with and inside the flyer drum 1. The pinion 25 is engaged by a toothed segment 26 urged to rotate in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 2, about an axle 27 by a spring 28. The segment 26 carries a cranked arm 29 which arm when the segment 26 has been moved by the spring 28, lies so as to come into engagement with a stop 30 attached to a fixed plate 1. In the closed position of the flyer 10, Fig. 2, a nose 19 of the lever 17 engages beneath the axle 23 and is held in this position by a leaf spring 32 attached at one end to the flyer drum 1 and at the other end bearing against a nose 31 formed on.the connecting rod 17. Prior to casting pressure is applied by the angling finger to the flyer 10 in the direction of arrow F, Fig. 1, to disengage the nose 19 and the axle 23 and to enable the spring 28 to partially rotate the segment 26 to lift the nose 19 slightly above the axle 23, Fig. 3 (not shown). On release of further pressure the spring 28 through the segment 26, pin 22 and connecting rod 17 and the pull of the line move the flyer 10 to the fully open position 10<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, and at the end of the movement a notch 20 on the connecting rod 17 engages the axle 23 to prevent further rotation of the segment 26. On rotating the flyer drum 1 to re-wind the line the arm 29 comes against the stop 30 and is returned to the initial position, Fig. 2, and the segment 26 returns the nose 19 to the position below the axle 23 to lock the flyer 10 in the closed position. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, 6 and 7 the flyer 36, pivotally mounted on pins 37, 37<SP>1</SP> screwed into bosses 38, 38<SP>1</SP> on the flyer drum 1, is locked in the closed position when a hinge point 59 between a crank 42 and a link 45 is below a line drawn between pivot centres 43, 58. The flyer 36 is held in the closed position by an arm of a U shaped spring engaging a lug 44 on an arm 39 attached to the flyer 36. The pivot 59 is raised above the line between pivots 43, 58 on depressing the flyer in the direction of arrow F, Fig. 5, and the flyer 36 is now in a position to be moved to the open position. On release of the pressure a spring 53 rotates a segment 46 to a position in which an arm 51 thereon lies in so as to come into engagement with stop 52 mounted on non-rotating. plate 50 and moves the flyer 36 to the open position through gear teeth 49 on the crank 42. When the line is rewound on rotation of the flyer drum 1 the arm 51 engages the stop 52 to rotate the segment 46 to its initial position and through the gear teeth 49, crank 42 and link 45 returns the flyer 36 to the closed and locked position shown in Fig. 5. The flyer 36 can also be safely locked in the closed position by a nose 55 of a leaf spring 56, slidably mounted in the flyer drum 1 and operated by a knob 57, engaging a recess in the segment 46.
