Class 118(1) [Also in Group XV] In a device for visually representing variable data comprising a plate, cylinder or the like having a surface provided with a number of parallel channels 1 to receive elongated movable marking means 2, the latter consist of strings, preferably round, of an elastic material, e.g. an synthetic plastic material, the cross-section of which is such that the strings are deformed when being pressed into the channels from the front thereof, and are retained therein through their elasticity so as to substantially fill the channels. The strings may be solid or tubular and may be provided in various colours. String pieces 3 with heads 4 bearing text 5 may be used, and the plate, &c. surface may be provided with scales such as 6, 7, 8, and card holders 9. The side edges of the channels may be parallel or slightly outwardly divergent. The plate may be of transparent material with channels provided on both sides, all the marking means being visible from either side.
