Abstract
753,206. Statistical apparatus. MAUL, M. Nov. 29, 1954 [Dec. 29, 1953; Sept. 30, I954], No. 34574/54. Class 106 (1). A card feeding device is characterized in that a rotating member is provided which projects into the card feeding path during part of its revolution and also moves in the card feeding path in the direction of card movement at a lower speed than that of the cards. The card feeding member is in the form of rotating star-shaped cam 12, Fig. 1, the noses of which project into the card feeding path. The cards are fed by rolls 11 under brushes b<SP>1</SP>-b<SP>6</SP> where they are arrested by one of the noses of the star-shaped cam. The second position of the feed-cam indicated by dotted lines is provided for the second deck of the card, the distance between these two positions amounting to the distance between decks on the card. When the analysis of the card is completed the stop releases the card to the sorting deflectors 19 which are actuated by magnets in accordance with the data sensed from the card. The drive of the feed cam 12 is effected through shaft 13 by means of a gear 16 which engages the central toothed wheel 17. The shaft 13 is mounted on arms 26 fast on shaft 18. The lever 27 is also fast on the shaft 18, Fig. 2. The feed cam 12 may be rocked manually about the toothed wheel 17 to one or other of the alternative positions by means of the lever 27. The dimensions of the gears 16 and 17 and the rocking angle of the arm 26 are determined so that the feed cam 12 is lagging for a predetermined angle in the position indicated in dotted lines corresponding to the lower deck. The amount of the angle of lag is determined by the deck distance and the supply speed imparted to the cards by the rollers 11. The drive is imparted from the motor through the worm shaft 21, worm wheels 22 and feed rollers 11. A pinion 23 is rigidly connected with the middle worm wheel 22 and drives the toothed wheel 24, hollow shaft 25, and gear 17. The drive of the controlling cams 29, 28 and 31 for the contacts n<SP>1</SP>, n<SP>2</SP> and n<SP>3</SP> is effected by the worm shaft 21 through the worm wheel 32. In Fig. 2 the cam contacts n<SP>1</SP>, n<SP>2</SP> and n3 are arranged one behind the other so that n<SP>1</SP> only can be seen. The cam contact n<SP>1</SP> controls the analysing brushes circuit for the upper deck, the cam contact n<SP>2</SP> controls the analysing brushes for the lower deck and the cam contact n3 interrupts the holding circuits of the deflector magnets after the card has passed the deflectors. The contact U is provided to change over from n<SP>1</SP> to n<SP>2</SP> on change of deck position of the rotating card stop.
