Abstract

751,806. Moving sidewalks. STEPHENS-ADAMSON MFG. CO. April 30, 1954 [June 2, 1953], No. 12664/54. Class 78 (1). A moving sidewalk is provided with a passenger station intermediate its ends comprising a horizontal platform overhanging the sidewalk whereby a passenger may step from the sidewalk to the platform or vice versa substantially in the direction of travel of the sidewalk. The embodiment shows a sidewalk consisting of an endless belt 10 provided with stations 11, 25. The station 11 consists of a fixed platfrom 12 supporting a platform 13 which overhangs the belt and is provided with a foot guard 18 consisting oa a rubber strip 19 having its lower edge 20 in wiping contact with the tread surface of the belt, the strip being clamped against a flange 21 on the platform by a metal strip 22 which protects the feet of a passenger on the belt adjacent the rail 15 and approaching the station. The station 25 conprises a platform 26 supporting a platform 27 which overhangs the belt and is provided at its end 31 with a take-off plate 32 close to the surface of the belt. A guard rail 33 projecting from the hand rail 28 serves as a warning to passengers as they approach the station.
