750,343. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1954 [Aug. 28, 1953], No. 23815/53. Class 135. A hydraulic system including a servomotor for actuating the main steam valve of a turbine is controlled from a speed governor and by boiler pressure, and the variable hydraulic pressure actuating the servomotor is controlled by a leak responsive to boiler pressure in the sense of reducing the steam supply to the turbine with falling boiler pressure down to a quantity corresponding to a predetermined minimum load to be left on the turbine. The invention is described in connection with the control system disclosed in Specification 677,097. The pressure controlling the servomotor 25 actuating the turbine inlet valve 28 is subject to two variable leaks, one under the control of the speed governor 1 and the other, 152, under the control of the boiler pressure. The latter is applied to a bellows 129 which, through a floating lever 105, actuates a valve 115 controlling a servomotor 125 actuating the needle leak valve 152, and a feedback from the servomotor to valve 115 is obtained by connecting the servomotor to the floating lever 105. The control pressure produced in conduit 154 is fed back to act on a cylinder 119 which constitutes a seat for valve 115 and when, on a falling boiler pressure, the pressure acting on cylinder 119 falls sufficiently low for it to be overcome by the adjustable loading spring 118 of the cylinder, the latter will be moved down to recentre valve 115, and the turbine inlet valve 28 will be arrested at the position corresponding to the minimum load it is desired to keep on the turbine.
