Abstract
749,409. Statistical apparatus. MAUL, M. Feb. 8, 1954 [Feb. 12, 1953], No. 3700/54. Class 106 (1). A record card controlled machine for group card control is characterized in that the item cards as well as the summary cards are fed past a punch with total punching being effected on the summary cards in usual manner, and that under the control of a card counter for the number of cards of a group, each item card is punched with the running number of its sequence within the group, and that upon total punching the punching mechanism is controlled by the card counter and that the punching device punches into the summary card the number of cards belonging to a group. The cards are fed from a magazine 11, Figs. 2 and 3, past the analysing brush Sb and past the punch L and bushes b after which the cards drop into a receiver 13. The cards are sorted into groups before insertion in the magazine 11 with a blank card between groups which bears a controlling hole adjacent one edge for initiating total taking. As the cards pass brush Sb, Fig. 3, each card without a control hole causes the counting mechanism Z to be advanced one step. After the card has been advanced to the punching mechanism L an impulse is sent from the counter Z to the mechanism L to punch the running card sequence number into the card. As the item cards pass the brushes b the latter analyse the amount data and the group number and transfer it to the accumulators or the storage device AD. At the end of a group of cards there is a card bearing the control hole, as described above, which through brush Sb inhibits the impulse to the card counting mechanism Z. When the summary card is under the punch it receives the same number as the last item card since the control hole has prevented any advance in the card counter. Simultaneously with the same marker being punched into the summary card, the data contained in the accumulators and the storage device AD is also punched into the summary card so that this card becomes in fact the summary card of the immediately previous group of item cards. The accumulator and storage device AD are then immediately reset. Fig. 4 shows the wiring diagram which utilizes a known impulse transmitter i<SP>1</SP>. When the last item card passes the analysing brush Sb and the summary card with its control hole follows up, cam contact n<SP>3</SP> closes and the circuit from brush Sb is not interrupted so that magnet Zm is shortcircuited by the brush Sb and cannot therefore respond. A circuit is also established by the relay S so that the latter responds actuating its contacts St and Stt. Relay H responds in the next cycle and total taking is initiated by movement of contacts hI to hIII. Finally, magnet E is energized to effect zeroizing of the card counter mechanism in known manner.
