Abstract

749,091. Glass cutters: CAMPMANY, J. A V. Oct. 2, 1953 [Nov. 27, 1952], No. 27060/53. Class 56. A device for breaking a glass or like vial comprises a body made of flexible or elastic material and having a cavity for containing a portion of the vial, an opening communicating with the outside being provided forming an abrasive surface for scratching the vial where the rupture is to take place. As shown the body is formed of two pieces 10, 11, hinged together by a band 12, or in a modification by hinges, having surfaces 13, 14 which coincide when the pieces are rotated towards one another. Recesses 16, 17 in the pieces form the cavity for the vial when the pieces are in contact and outlets 18, 19 are coated with carborundum 21, concreted carborundum or a steel saw to scratch the vial surface when the vial and body are rotated relative to one another. The band 12 may be integral with pieces 10, 11. In a modification the body is formed as a single member the vial being pushed through the opening into the cavity, a second opening being provided opposite to the first for the ejection therethrough of the broken pieces of the vial or for the insertion of a tool to eject the broken vial pieces through the first opening.
