Abstract
747,759. Surfacing glass. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. July 8, 1953 [July 15, 1952; June 22, 1953], No. 33887/54. Divided out of 747,738 Drawings to Specification. Class 56 A chemical solution for use in surfacing glass comprises a solvent, an acid capable of supplying hydrogen ions dissolved in the solvent, a fluoride soluble in the solution and having a cation from the group of inorganic cations and organic radicals capable of forming a silicofluoride that is highly insoluble in the solvent, and a suppressant to further increase the insolubility of the silicofluoride in the solvent in order to control the size of the precipitate particles formed. Many examples of suitable agents are given and the action of the solution is discussed with reference to graphs.
