Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXIV] A device for positively locking a controlled rotary shaft 2, operating e.g. a frequency-band change-switch in a radio receiver, in one or more, e.g. four, evenly spaced positions, comprises a ball 15 guided in a radial channel 11 in a fixed plate 8, and pressed radially inwards by a bladespring 16 to engage one of a number (four) of tapered peripheral notches 7 in a plate 5 integral with the shaft 2 to lock the shaft positively in a selected position from which it is released by inward axial movement of an outwardly spring-pressed operating knob 4 on an aligned shaft 1, such movement causing one of a number (four) of inclined portions 19, inwardly bent from a plate 17 fast on the shaft 1, to urge the ball 15 radially out of locking engagement with the shaft-notch 7, permitting the shaft 2 to be subsequently turned by the 'knob 4 through torque-transmitting engagement between the bent portions 19 and the notches 7. The initial turning movement causes one of a number (four) of notches 18 in the plate 17 to ride up the inclined side of a fixed projection 23, thus forcing the knob 4 axially outwards so that the spring 16 can move the ball 15 back inwards into the next lock-notch 7 of the driven shaft 2..when it comes into register with the ball.
