Abstract

746,765. Straightening strip. CLARK & SONS (TOOLMAKERS), Ltd., G. F.,' and CLARK, G. F. March 31, 1954 [April 1, 1953], No. 9032/53. Class 83 (4). A device for straightening strip includes a box-like casing formed in two halves hinged together, a set of parallel rollers mounted in each half casing, the rollers of one set being parallel to but intermediate, those of the other set, between which sets of rollers the strip is passed, and means for adjusting one set towards the other. Two castings 1, 2 hinged at one edge, together form a lockable box having an entry slot 7 and an exit slot 9 for the strip. The lower box part 1, which has an extension 4 which may be bolted to a fixed frame, has journalled therein three parallel rollers 10, and the upper box part 2 has two parallel rollers 17 journalled in U- frames 13, 14 pivoted on a spindle 12. The upper rollers 17 are adjusted towards the lower by screws 19, 20 abutting the U-frames and extending through the upper box part 2. Strip entering through the slot 7 is cleaned by resilient pads 28, is lubricated as it passes between the rollers, the lower box part 1 forming an oil bath and the rollers being hollow and apertured to receive lubricant, and has excess lubricant wiped off by a pad 27 as it leaves through the slot 9.
