Abstract

A coating composition comprises a high molecular weight solvent-soluble isocyanatemodified polyester or polyester amide and a low molecular weight isocyanate-modified polyester or triisocyanate. The high molecular weight isocyanate-modified polyester or polyesteramide has a viscosity of above 0.030 at 25 DEG C. in a 0.1 per cent solution of m-cresol. The low molecular weight isocyanate-modified polyester has a molecular weight of 500-4000 and 2-25 per cent of free NCO groups. The low molecular weight triisocyanate has a molecular weight of 400-1000 and 10-30 per cent of free NCO groups. Triisocyanates specified are the condensation products of hexanetriol, trimethylol propane and castor oil with toluylene diisocyanate. A cross linking reaction takes place after coating. Reaction accelerators, e.g. tertiary amines, organic solvent soluble metal compounds, the high molecular weight condensation product of N-methyl-diethylamine and a polyester or polyesteramide or the reaction product of 1 mol. of N-methyldiethanolamine and 2 mols. of phenylisocyanate may be employed. Additives specified are china clay, titanium dioxide, kaolin, dyestuffs, hard paraffin, black pigments, aluminium bronze powder and plasticizers.
