Abstract

744,839. Fabrics composed of adhesivelybonded fibres. CHICOPEE MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. March 27, 1953 [April 7, 1952; April 7, 1952; May 7, 1952], No. 8516/53. Class 140. A stretchable, fabric-like material comprises a web of oriented fibres 40 bonded together by adhesive applied in a pattern of spaced annuli 10 occupying a minor proportion of the surface area of the web. The annuli are so arranged that the unbonded lengths of fibre between them act as parallelograms distortable like " lazy tongs." The annuli may be polygonal in shape. The web may comprise a minor proportion of non-oriented fibres. The material may be stretched at right angles to the fibre direction to give a lace-like, reticular structure, which has a soft feel due to puckering of some oriented fibres and the ends of such non- oriented fibres as are broken during the stretching operation. The material may be napped by lightly brushing, e.g. with rotary brushes. The material may be used as towels, diapers, bandages, sanitary napkin covers, blankets, table napkins, or casket lining material. Specification 745,065 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 688,985.
