Abstract
744,410. Switches held set and freed mechanically. RELY-A-BELL BURGLAR & FIRE ALARM CO., Ltd. March 17, 1954 [Dec. 18, 1952], No. 32152/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXVIII] An electric switch, forming part of a theft alarm, comprises a pair of contacts 13 which are closed by the passage of a stud 12 attached to a rod 4 projecting from a casing 3. The rod 4 is spring-urged outwardly and is so associated with further mechanism that on pressing the rod into the casing, for example by closing a wardrobe door, the mechanism is set and the subsequent release of the rod, for example by opening the door causes the contact 13 to be closed and the alarm operated. A key operating controlling device is provided; before the mechanism is set the key must be turned to the "On" position and in order to stop the alarm, once it has been operated, the key.must be returned to the "Off" position. The key operates a bolt 11, shown in section in the Figures, which when the key is turned to the "On" position moves to a ,position where it can engage with a plate 5 pivoted upon the rod 4. Upon depression of the rod 4, the sloping edge 14 of the plate 5 rides upon the bolt 11, thus turning the plate anticlockwise, until the position shown in Fig. 2 is reached after which the plate falls back so that the cage 15 engages the top of the bolt 11. The mechanism is now set and upon releasing the rod 4, the rod comes out a, short distance, whereupon the slot 16 engages the bolt 11 and further movement of the rod 4 in either direction is prevented. In this position the stud 12 engages the contacts 13 to close them and complete the alarm circuit. To release the mechanism, the key is turned to the "Off" position, whereby the bolt 11 is withdrawn out of engagement with the plate 5. It will be seen that during the setting operation the stud 12 will momentarily close the contacts 13; this causes the alarm to be operated for a short time and gives an indication that the apparatus is functioning, correctly.
