744,402. Dental articulators. BOYLE, H. H. May 15, 1953 [May 15, 1952], No. 12312/52. Class 81(2). Apparatus for positioning teeth on a dental prosthesis comprises a housing of U-form having a recess to receive and fit an articulator and a surface with guides at mid height of the articulator to receive and fit a gauge plate, an articulator fitting said housing and having upper and lower jaw mould holders and a gauge plate resting on said surface of the housing and laterally located by the guides thereof. The housing or integrator 21 has a back portion 22 with projecting side walls 23 and a recess 24 for the standard 7 of an articulator. The side walls 23 have upstanding ribs 25 for guiding the gauge plate which is preferably made of stainless steel and which comprises a strip 2 with two rearward extensions 3 and has at the centre rearwardly projecting points 5, 6 spaced by the width of an incisor tooth. A bite block faced with wax is placed in the patient's mouth and the points 5, 6 thrust into the wax so that the strip 2 is horizontal and the extensions 3 slope upwardly to define the position of the patient's occlusal surface. The bite block and gauge plate 1 are then transferred to the articulator and integrator 21 so that the gauge plate 1 rests on the side walls 23 of the integrator 21, the upper and lower jaw mould holders 11, 8, being adjusted to support the jaw moulds. The upper jaw mould holder 11 is hinged to an extensor 9 which may be adjusted vertically relative to the standard 7, a knurled nut 17 being provided for this purpose. The jaw mould is secured by plaster to the holders 8, 11, a horeshoe strip 27 being provided to confine the plaster securing the lower jaw mould. In order to position the teeth, a template defining the required occlusal surface is secured to the upper jaw mould by wax at the level of the gauge plate 1 and the upper teeth are positioned. The lower teeth are then positioned with respect to the teeth of the upper jaw. Specification 442,933 is referred to.
