Abstract
744,143. Thermocouples. WILD-BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1953 [Dec. 29, 1952], No. 32897/52. Class 53. A thermocouple 1 forming a part of a temperature measuring apparatus is housed in a tube 2 which passes through one or more walls of the furnace and is open to the atmosphere at both ends. One end of the tube is at a lower level than the other so that when the tube is hot air passes through it and removes any gases which may have diffused through the walls of the tube. Fig. 1 shows a construction in which the tube is bent so that it passes through only one wall of the furnace. Fig. 2 shows the tube passing through opposite walls. In other constructions the tube passes through the top wall only of the furnace, and through a side wall and the bottom and through the top and bottom walls. The air flow through the tube may be regulated by a screw 7.
